Q&A: Rod Recommendation for Kayak fishing in Panama & Florida

Updated: Apr 19, 2020

Question:

"I would like to purchase a conventional rod (reel recommendation would be appreciated) to use mainly for kayak fishing in Panama and Florida. The main use would be for live bait/dead bait. Interested in something light that could handle cubera , roosterfish smaller yellowfin in Panama--perhaps tarpon in Florida--short for travel--if not a two piece. Could also use for jigging. In Panama jig weight--60 gram to 150 but main use would be bait--I have access to another rod for jigging--kayak fishing there is extra risk of losing rod overboard so interested in something fairly economical. Best and thanks for your time and expertise."

Answer:

"I recommend Black Hole Cape Cod Special 80g - 150g rods as well as Black Hole Cape Cod Special Slow Pitch rods."
